From Being Trapped In Endless Night Shifts To Creating A Program Fit For All

My long journey started as a nurse, a volunteer nurse to be precise.

After years of studying, with an expensive tuition fee, the frustration I felt from my situation was like a one-two combo punch, no stable work nor income and it was during the time that there was a surplus of nurses.

As much as it was fulfilling to be able to help others, I had no means of generating my income and still had to ask my parents to cover my expenses. It feels great to be able to help people, true. But I greatly felt the need to help myself more. 

I knew that I had to do something and act on it.

That's how my night shift chronicles started.

I became a company nurse, then a nurse at a private hospital, both night shifts. And so, burnout happened.

I stumbled upon the BPO world, with the demand at its all-time high. I wanted to see for myself if it is worth the talk.

But I was once again transported to the world of night owls.

Besides the late working hours and irate customers that kept me on the edge. It wasn't fulfilling, and I felt tired physically and mentally. But I had no choice, I needed to make ends meet. So I continued. 

If you've experienced the immense pain of waiting in long queues and being stuck in a 3-4 hour traffic jam, you'd know how tiring it is, draining you, not to mention the less in your salary pay whenever you get late to work.

Working nonstop for almost 20 hours isn't and will NEVER be healthy for us, it also robs us of the time we can spend with our families and ourselves, not to mention the salary that cannot keep up with the daily needs and zero savings for the future.

That's when I started looking for a home-based job. Freelancing came into the picture. But, this isn't the turning point YET. Like everyone else, I have sent numerous applications and cover letters to prospective clients, before actually having my first client.

The ironic part is, it didn't feel like freelancing at all, I was still on my graveyard shift and still worked for more than 8 hours.

I was overworked and earning an amount that seemed useless if it was all just going to pay my medical bills. 

I tried to find freelancing work with a lighter schedule, and just like one of those movies, I have finally seen the light! I got out of my graveyard shift as an ESL teacher, and I get to have a more flexible schedule. 

My salary got compromised as I wanted to prioritize my health especially since I was pregnant during that time. 

I tried to look for different freelancing jobs, I became a Pinterest Manager, and then a Social Media Manager. But both did not feel fulfilling, I felt like it wasn't for me. My impostor syndrome got the best of me.

So I tried looking for a different niche—again.

That's where I discovered being an Amazon Product Researcher. And to be honest, I felt like giving up on the third day of my paid trial in sourcing.

But I didn't stop there. If I keep on quitting and giving up, I'll be stuck in an endless loop.

I took my time discovering the different strategies that I can use, practice and study. That was the eureka moment for me. 

I didn't know I could achieve my salary as a full-time BPO (with OTs on the side) in just a few hours as an Amazon Product Researcher.

I was one of those people who used the mantra "Kung kaya ng iba, kaya ko rin." Quitting was NEVER an option for me this time. I felt that it was now or never, either I go big or go home. 

I'm glad I didn't give up. Now I'm earning P100k per month.

I started investing in myself to become efficient and attract clients.
